My blog - August 2006

So I wanna know - what's the name of the game?

August 27th 2006, 1:17am

Um, for the non-ABBA fans out there, that's one of their songs. :D

Funny the things you see. We had been out window shopping, me oggling outdoor gear and James drooling over guitars (ok, so I admired some too, especially one nice little bass) and were on our way home when we spotted it. A lady crossing the street with... wait, what is that? It looked like a cross between a stroller and one of those "little old lady" shopping carriers. In the basket of it was a cat. A cat with a harness on it. She was taking her cat for a walk like it was her toddler! How strange is that? What's next? Taking your hamster out for a walk in his ball? We thought it was pretty odd.

Later on that night, while I was snuggling into the covers, we were chatting about the games we used to play when we were kids. Some of them were the same, but with different names. We came up with quite a list of games. Freeze Tag aka Stick in the Mud, Chain Tag, Doctor Dodgeball aka Hot Rice, British Bulldog, Yakaball, Dungeons, Ladders, Rag Hockey, Knives/Forks/Spoons, Blood Rugby, Budge, Doctor Doctor aka Human Knot, Crab Football/Soccer, Blanket in the Dark, Sardines in a Can, Four Squares, Hide and Go Seek aka Free Pod, Football Cricket, What Time is it Mr. Wolf?, and I can't think of any more at the moment... If you don't recognize a name, it's probably because it's British. We'd both be interested in seeing what other games all of you could come up with! In fact, I started getting tired and from a change from the usual, I was ready to fall asleep before him! I actually told him he could keep talking, but I had to close my eyes, they wouldn't stay open any longer. I'm pretty sure I didn't fall asleep while he was talking!

Today we went out in the Golf to find random parts for it. There was one place I'd always see, and so we went there first! Turns out it was the better place to go, since we found replacement headlights, two rain trays to make into one (they're rather fragile things!), two rear speakers, a new headlight switch, a hood rest, the little plastic bits to cover the holes that the rearview mirror adjustors come out of (ours has replaced rearview mirrors that don't use the adjustors, the guy took them out), an ashtray that matches the interior of our car rather than the blue one that's currently in it, new windshield wipers and the whole lot only cost 50 bucks, so that's good. And all of that off of a Jetta and a Golf. Lucky thing, too. As we were taking the last parts we needed, a guy started looking at the Golf, and he was looking for headlights! Good thing we got there first, because the Pick'n'Pull is where he'd just come from, and all the Golfs had been picked clean there, so we lucked out!

I've finally got my driver's license back, now we're just praying our marriage certificate will come in time. We're trusting God that it will all come through, what with Him finding us such a great apartment for the exact amount of time we needed and all. But that's not to say we wouldn't mind prayers and crossed fingers from all of you! Or if you know any one who can fast-track my visa once the marriage certificate comes in! :D

how'bout "red rover" and "octopus tag". oh, and "tv tag"

Comment posted by Nomi at 1:17am on August 27th 2006

Red Rover I forgot. How is octopus tag different from chain tag? And what is TV tag?

Comment posted by sharon at 1:17am on August 27th 2006

oh, whoops! I guess those two are pretty much the same (although ¨octopus tag¨sounds more fun!) In TV tag, when someone tags you, you´re frozen until another person touches you and yells out a TV show name (you can only say a show once)

The Blogging Queen

August 23rd 2006, 1:34am

No, no. It's not me! Not even remotely! I would like to salute Janelle Loewen as the Queen of Blog. I don't know how she does it! She's got a munchkin, work and somehow manages to blog more than anyone else I know. So kudos, Janelle. You rock!

Time is flying by, I have only a little over a month until we are supposed to be flying to Glasgow. Only thing being, I have yet to get either our marriage certificate or my new driver's license, both of which are needed in order to get my visa. I really wish it would just be so simple as to be married to James and be able to move. At least the wedding part is over and done with! I loved it, but I'm glad not to have that planning on top of trying to make sure my visa comes through.

As the construction on my site continues, I'd love to hear feedback on the changes from you guys! Web design is something I'm learning, so let me know!

hey naomi! I imagine it must be pretty frustrating, playing the waiting game. I'll be praying for you and the whole process.

The site looks great. One thing, though, the date in the "take up your bed and walk" forum post is off--don't know if that matters to you or not.

Anyways, in 3 days....!

love you!

Photo Hunt

August 18th 2006, 5:17am

We've been married nearly three weeks already! When did that time fly by? Just cross your fingers and pray that we can get all the legalities through in time for our flight to the UK. We're flying to Glasgow from Calgary September 28th, so that's coming quickly!

I've been asked by friends and family and people at work if I have pictures to show. Unfortunately, we don't as of yet! We should be meeting with the photographer soon, which will be nice! I can't wait to see the pictures. But since James and I didn't have a camera in hand as we usually do, if you're interested in pictures, they shall have to come from all of you! So if you took pics at our wedding, please let me know! I'd love to show some off to all of you!

When James and I were wandering around the beach near the Malaspina Galleries on Gabriola Island, we found this hollow log, and I HAD to have him try and take pictures of me through it!

This Site Under Renovation

August 13th 2006, 7:26am

Mrs. Naomi Ots... I'm still getting used to that. It's funny signing documents at work now. If I'm signing my full name, it's okay. But if I'm signing for a delivery, I've got an automatic reflex to sign my "shipper" signature. And initials are a whole other story!

We had a fantastic honeymoon. I won't go into too many details! We went out to Vancouver Island and stopped in Sorrento on the way there. We were making good time when we realized we'd forgotten something at the B&B, which fortunately the owner brought partway to meet us with. Saving us an extra hour of driving time!

We stayed three nights on Gabriola Island, which was great. They upgraded our room to the best room since it was our honeymoon and we had the place to ourselves! We ate at Suzy's, and nowhere else during our stay.

Then it was onwards to Nanaimo for two nights, where we took a quick trip up to Coombs. If you've never been there, you should go! Goats on a roof. And really good smoked salmon. We did our usual thing in Nanaimo and Coombs. Lots of pictures, bookshop browsing (okay, so we bought some books!) and antique store shopping. Then I got to take the road out to Tofino. Ooooo, fun, goody goody! Lots of tight curves...

James had surprised me by not telling me where we were staying in Tofino, which was the Wickaninnish Inn. It was fantastic, and such a nice treat! And it was great to fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing outside. Plus it turned out I knew two employees there. James from treeplanting, and Katherine from my soccer team, the Whitecaps. So I thought that was funny.

We hadn't realized there was no road direct from Tofino to Victoria, so James got to drive the road too! And see his first wild bear. When we got into Victoria, we thought we'd go out for dinner, and drove the coast road. And drove, and drove and drove. We actually drove quite a ways before we finally found a restaurant. Our stomachs were getting pretty growly!

Once we got back over to the mainland, we drove through Langley so I could show James where I grew up and went to school. We also stopped and visited with my grandpa for a little bit. Then it was back on the road. Our last night was the only one we hadn't booked a night's stay with. So I looked in a brochure we had, and only one place was listed for Kamloops. Fortunately, they had room at the inn! And it was a great chance to show James the kind of open plan timber-framed house I'd like to build someday. Maybe not that house exactly, but it was a good example.

The next day it was back to Calgary and back to "real life". It would have been nice to take a honeymoon in the literal sense, a whole month, but the week we had was fantastic. Now we're both back to work, back to cooking meals together, in a place of our own.

As you can see, my site is under a little renovation. With a husband that blogs regularly, perhaps I can manage to do the same! So keep an eye out for changes and new additions to the site!

Thanks for the congrats, Cords!

Coombs, no that's Coney Island at Whiterock you're thinking of, Sharon. And I took James there, too! We had fish and chips before we went to Langley! :D
