My blog - April 2006

A good chuckle

April 21st 2006, 12:19am

I've been busy getting the invitation envelopes addressed (wow, that's a lot of calligraphy!!!!) and haven't had much time for blogging. I can't believe we're at the end of April already! Where did the time go?

I've got the material for the bridesmaid dresses all picked out, which is great. Finding just the right shade. Wow. What an experience!!!! The right shades existed with Alfred Angelo dresses, but when it came to finding the material, the green just wasn't there, so I had to look for the same colour family but darker shade. Still works, and I'm happy with it, so that's good!

James arrives back in Canada June 14th, so that's coming up fast! I think he's counting down till that more than me, I'm so busy with other wedding things that I probably will get REALLY excited about that when it's within a month. And since time is flying by, that won't be long!

The weather out here is gorgeous! I keep looking out the window at work and wishing I were out there. Sometimes I think I'd go treeplanting again, just to lose the weight and get the tan and be outside. Oddly enough, the only thing I didn't like about treeplanting was that I wasn't good enough at it to make money. But I did get some good gear, which is great! And now I'll just have to break James in to Canada's "Great Outdoors"! Can't wait for the summer!

Our car is in the shop on Saturday, and I am hoping to make a road trip out to Winnipeg May long weekend, and hopefully to S'toon before then. We'll see how it goes! Sharon is coming out for a visit the first weekend of May, so that one is out. Any requests for a particular weekend from the S'tooners? :D

I got an email from Dan that made me laugh. I thought some of you could use a laugh or just appreciate the humour! So here it is!

Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all of the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m., but am getting so I like to sleep late.

Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay.Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there's warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc, but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon when you get fed again.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches", which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The country is nice but awful flat.

The sergeant is like a school teacher. He nags a lot. The Capt. is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like the Higgett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it You don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to hand combat training.

You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy. It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130 pounds, and he's 6'8" and weighs near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,

Isn't that GREAT? I love the shooting part. Makes me think of Eva Langoria. And that cool C&C night we had out at that farm. Muzzle loaders and all!!!

That is great! Love the fact that the girl can totally outdo the boys with no effort whatsoever!

Planning to come to S'toon? I'd love to see you however I'm going to Ireland and England for most of the month! Leaving next Friday and back on the long weekend. Let me know when your coming and hopefully we can work something out. If I'm around you are more than welcome to stay at my place.

That's fabulous! It totally got me that it was a girl!

Enjoy this last bit of wedding planning, it's a lot of fun but it goes fast.

Thanks for your notes to my sister, I know that she really appreciates the help!

I saw a few pictures on Sharon's website - you make a beautiful bride, I loved the umbrella... It think it's called something else.. but I can't remember and it's late here.
